We are individuals who have come together to offer a dog sport for any ability and age. This is a new dog sport and we can't wait to see what the future holds for SHUK.

Our Story

Each one of the committee brings something unique, meet the team below.

Each committee member is dedicated to the sport of Scent Hurdling and own their own dogs. They have a love and passion to see every member of SHUK do well and want to see all members thrive in a positive, supportive community.

SHUK was created as we wanted to grow a dog sport that any person or dog could have a go at regardless of age or disability.

Scent Hurdling UK was born and it is an exciting time!

Meet The Team

Adele Kirkup

Founder & Chair of Committee

Adele's background is Psychology. After working as a behaviour specialist in a primary school she soon turned to dog behaviour! Now a Pro Dog Trainer, she owns 6 dogs that compete in various dog sports, mainly agility. However one of her young collies was injured and wasn't ability to participate in agility. She looked into other dog sports but none were suitable. Hence, SHUK was born and she is now training Storm to be her first SHUK dog.

Janet Thompson

Vice Chair

Janet's background is nursing and more recently regulation of health services. Dogs have always been in her life, she stopped competing horses and starting competing in dog agility with her miniature poodle Alfie. She's competed ever since with various dogs, all getting to Grade 7 and competing at most national finals like Olympia and Crufts. A conversation with Adele resulted in early involvement in SHUK.

Linda Clark

Secretary of Committee

Linda's background is in education working mainly with older children teaching Modern Languages before becoming a Headteacher. Since leaving education she's done a lot of trail running, including ultra running and spends time working on her dog's training and general wellbeing.

Linda loves seeing the pleasure that Hattie, her current dog, gets from doing Scent Hurdling and is looking forward to the day Hattie puts the skills of hurdling, scenting and retrieving together.

Jen Renolds

Treasurer of Committee

Jen is based at home but enjoys travelling to Adele's Dashing Dogs sessions for the lovely friendly and supportive environment. Jen has Eva, a full of character senior Doberman and Hector a mature Germ Wire Haired Pointer. Hector is a real sweetie but can be reactive to some dogs if he feels unsure. Scent Hurdling is giving him a job that suits him. He is working in a group situation with distractions. He loves the thrill of the race and the challenge of the retrieve. Scent Hurdling is a great sport, lower impact than some other dog sports.
